I first started my procurement career buying chocolates and ice cream, before moving into similar roles in the hotel industry. Although edible goods held obvious appeal, I was keen to try something new, but still within the leisure and travel industry. A friend suggested Heathrow and here I am, and I now look after engineering services, which perfectly fits the bill of a challenging opportunity in a new environment.
The team is great, hugely professional, but also great fun. I value the fact that everyone is treated with respect, team members are very generous with their advice and always willing to help each other.
We also have the opportunity to get involved with community projects which is great. I love being part of these activities, and the fact that we are able to take time out from work to contribute back to the community, despite everyone having busy schedules. I am part of the Age UK volunteer programme which hosts regular social events for the elderly. I last took part in a St Patrick’s Day party for 120 of the Irish elderly community in Hayes, and we helped by preparing the venue, food and entertainment for the event. The guests were fed like kings and danced the afternoon away and all left happy!
Most importantly, I have not had to wholly leave my edible goods. Cake is in plentiful supply at Heathrow, in the procurement team at least.
