Growing up in the local area I fondly remember the days my Grandfather would run to watch Concorde take off. Both my parents had roles at Heathrow that they thoroughly enjoyed, so it seemed natural I would join.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the opportunities it has given me for career progression. I started as a Security Officer and quickly progressed to a Security Supervisor role in Campus. I then successfully passed the Service Manager development programme, and became Security Assurance Manager in 2014. In October 2016 I was appointed to my new role, Head of Security.
I have been able to take advantage of development and leadership training to be in the senior position I am now. It’s only when you begin to reflect on what you have been involved in, and consequently achieved, that you realise how varied your career can be. One day I could spend my time responding to a security threat, and the next day I could be interviewing new graduates.
One story I am always proud of is being present the night we closed the original Terminal 2 and witnessing the last passenger depart. I then got to be there the day we opened the new one, planning the official opening event. I even got to meet the Queen!
