You could be involved in opening a new luxury retail concession, planning our next marketing campaign, or working to develop our relationships with our airline partners.
With a community of over 76,000 people, Heathrow depends on effective communications for its ongoing success. You’ll get to see how we facilitate communication across the airport, whether by engaging with colleagues, promoting collaboration across departments or developing the latest high-level campaigns.
- Engineering & Development
Your first placement will be with the engineering team, where you’ll learn how they manage and maintain our airport facilities and infrastructure. Your second will be with the development team, where you will get the chance to work to learn how we manage infrastructure projects at Heathrow.
We have lots of opportunities for you to develop your project management skills, as you engage with a huge variety of stakeholders, including our local community, airlines, partners, businesses and elected representatives, to ensure this is a project that delivers for everyone.

Join Heathrow Express’s commercial team as they continue to refine the proposition for passengers and stakeholders. From forecasting future passenger demands to creating sales initiatives, this placement will offer you a valuable insight into commercial thinking at Heathrow. We will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience across both the rail and aviation sectors, as you develop a wider understanding of Heathrow Express and Heathrow Airport.
From CCTV systems to our digital workplace programme, there will be opportunities for you to work on a wide range of projects – everything from dealing with our suppliers and stakeholders, to applying your creativity within IT innovation to protecting the airport as an IT security analyst.
- Terminal Operations
You’ll gain a unique insight into the operation of our award-winning terminals. As well as getting real frontline exposure, you’ll work with teams to implement new projects and technologies. In so doing, you’ll learn more about the critical work we do to make every journey better.
Gain experience and insight
Whichever area you choose, you’ll get to work on live projects with real responsibility and gain many valuable insights into your own department. There will also be opportunities for you to explore the wider airport, shadowing roles across the business and building up your personal brand. It all makes for an extremely varied workload. Day to day, you could be doing anything from getting involved in community projects to presenting to Heathrow’s executive committee.
Your professional development
The aim of the internship is to help you build a strong foundation for your future career. That’s why we provide a structured learning programme, with carefully tailored objectives and training opportunities that will help you develop quickly and in the right way. It starts on day one with a comprehensive induction to the business.
