Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme
When it comes to engineering opportunities, nothing quite matches Heathrow. Our airport infrastructure includes rail, roads, tunnels, bridges and a private water distribution system, not to mention the UK's largest free-standing structure at Terminal 5. And our engineers are responsible for all of it.
That's what makes our Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme so exciting. It's not just about having the opportunity to earn while you learn. It's also about working on real-life projects and getting to grips with the kind of engineering challenges you won't find anywhere else.
Recognised route to success
Our Engineering Apprenticeship scheme has been running for 40 years, and has produced many of the high-performing engineers and technicians who work with us today. In fact, more than half of our current engineering team started out as apprentices. On our four-year apprenticeship, you'll work alongside and learn from some of these highly experienced colleagues, developing diverse skillsets needed to maintain the critical engineering infrastructure we have at Heathrow.
Over the four years, you will gain accredited NVQs at levels 2 and 3 in General Engineering and Engineering Maintenance. And the learning doesn't stop there. There is also the potential for you to study towards a BTEC Level 3, HNC or BEng Foundation Degree.
What we're looking for
To be successful on this programme, you must have a real passion for engineering and a genuine desire to develop the skills and knowledge needed to become a professional engineer. It also helps if you are willing to adapt to feedback, and have a flexible, positive approach. In terms of GCSEs, you must have a grade B/6 or above in maths and grade C/5 or above in science, English and another subject. Alternatively, you could have an NVQ or equivalent in a science or engineering discipline.
When will applications be open?
Applications for our Engineering Apprenticeship will be open in Spring 2018.
